ATM Direct Charging
Direct Charging has represented a change to the way ATM transactions are charged.
Now, when you use another financial organisation's ATM, you will be charged a 'Direct Charge' fee by the owner of the ATM at the time of the transaction. This fee will be shown before you decide to proceed.
For example, if you use a non-rediATM to withdraw $100.00 from ABC ATM and ABC Bank have set a Direct Charge amount of $2.00, the ATM receipt will show a withdrawal of $102.00.
These changes have been introduced by the RBA to make ATM fees more visible and upfront, to increase competition and to encourage investment in the ATM network.
rediATM. Your Direct Charge-free network is here.
Australian Credit Unions have joined together to develop the rediATM network, which was formerly known as Rediteller. As a result, all credit union Members will never have to pay a Direct Charge fee when you withdraw cash, check your balance, or make transfers from a rediATM.*
NAB and Bank of Queensland have now joined the rediATM network, increasing the number of rediATMs across Australia to 3,500.
Keep in mind that when you use the rediATM network (including any NAB ATM), your normal transaction fees apply and can be included in your monthly Transaction Fee Rebate. If you use a non-rediATM, the fee is not included in your rebate and therefore you are charged the fee directly.
Using a rediATM is your most cost-effective option for using ATMs. In addition to rediATMs, you can also withdraw cash from any outlet displaying the EFTPOS sign, that allows cash withdrawal (e.g. supermarkets and petrol stations).
If you combine your EFTPOS purchases with cash out, you can do two transactions for the one-low cost! This is also included in your Transaction Fee Rebate.
