New global standard is card security

Introducing a new level of protection for your debit and credit card transactions

What is a chip card?

A chip card is basically the same as your current Visa Credit and Visa Debit cards, but is embedded with a smart chip.

Like the magnetic stripe on the back of current cards, the embedded microchip securely stores your account details; your account name, number and account expiry date.

New global standard in card security

Unlike the magnetic stripe, the microchip is virtually impossible to copy, providing an unrivalled level of protection against counterfeiting, card skimming and other fraudulent use.

How do I use my new chip card?

Rather than swipe your new Visa Chip card, it is inserted into the new chip compatible card terminals and you confirm your identity by inserting the cards PIN.

All Visa cards can still be used at ATMs in the same way they are currently used.

What about travelling overseas?

Chip technology is already used in many countries around the world, and is now the preferred, safer option for most overseas merchants.

When will I receive my new chip card?

If your Visa Credit or Visa Debit card is due to expire, or you have ordered a new card after 6 January 2010, you will automatically receive a chip card.
