What Guardian will do for you?

  • Take proactive action to recover funds were a fraud has occurred

This means that if you suffer a loss as a result of a fraudulent transaction, we will credit your account with the amount of the loss provided you:

  • You have not directly contributed to the fraud; and
  • Have notified us promptly of the fraud.

Keeping your money safe and secure

Your Security Checklist

Here are some advice to keep in mind to make sure your online banking experience is hassle free:

  • Never provide your personal details. sign-on, password, credit card or account details in response to any email - even if it looks like PCU sent it.
  • Police Credit Union will never ask you to confirm your details via phone or email - we already have them on file!
  • Do not click on links or attachments in emails sent from a source you do not know or trust; or to access PCU's Internet Banking site.
  • Review your transaction history every time you log onto Internet Banking, and also check every statement for transactions you do not recognise.

Computer Security
Viruses / Trojans / Keyloggers / Spyware

You don't have to be too tech savvy to protect your computer - anyone can do it!

Computers can be easily infected by malicious software that can transmit personal information to other parties, who then may use that information to raid your bank account or compromise your credit card.

Here are some tips to protect your computer:

  • Ensure you have the latest Anti-virus/ Anti-spyware protection installed, and have it set to update automatically.
  • Regularly run scans of your PC using the updated security software.
  • Utilise the software's Firewall function.
  • Avoid accessing internet banking from shared computers or internet cafes.
  • Always click on the "logout" button to exit Internet Banking.

"Police Credit Union owes you money" Guardian Fraud Watch - April 2011

There is a current scam doing the rounds where the caller advises you that Police Credit Union owes you a refund of fees.

The caller then asks for further personal details such as date of birth, credit / debit card number or even a tele-service code (although they don't use that actual term). They are looking for enough information to commit fraud in your name.

ATM Skimming Incidents on the rise!

Over the past three months there have been 47 confirmed instances of skimming devices being fitted to ATMs over the East coast of Australia.  Cards skimmed from just one ATM in Sydney recently led to over $400,000 if funds being stolen from accounts.

A fraud warning has been issued regarding an offer for cheap shares for major companies.  US based company Greenfield Insurance has become affiliated with the scam that is duping people into investing their money into fraudulent accounts.

This recent scam has hit PCU Members & customers of other financial institutions in their hip pocket, with credit card details being gained by deceit and used to make fraudulent purchases.
