The Faces Behind Better Banking: Amanda Woodroofe

14 May 2019

We want you to get to know our staff – the friendly people behind our motto of #BetterBanking… So we are introducing the next staff member in our ‘Faces Behind Better Banking’ series….

Next up we have Amanda Woodroofe. She has recently been appointed as the new Branch Manager at our Marion branch and she is loving it! Her positive attitude is contagious and she always seems to have a smile on her face.

Read our Q&A with Amanda below.

Q: Name?
A: Amanda Woodroofe

Q: Nickname?
A: Dandy

Q: Describe your family
A: My fiancé David and our almost 11-year-old daughter, Lilly.

Q: Pets?
A: Yes, a bouncy two-year-old Boxer named Lucy (check out her Insta account @life_with_Lucy_Boxer). Our other fur baby is Hamish, a five-year-old Lilac Burmese that just tolerates Lucy.

Q: What is your secret hidden talent?
A: Well, after I broke my leg recently, I have been told it’s my high pain threshold.

Q: How long have you been with Police Credit Union?
A: I celebrated my one-year anniversary in April.

Q: What is your favourite part of the area you work in?
A: I haven’t experienced it yet, but I am looking forward to visiting Myponga Reservoir. I think it will be my favourite!

Q: Where is the best place to get a coffee near the branch?
A: Sorry for all the coffee lovers out there but I am not one of them. I do love a hot chocolate on a cold day, though.

Q: What’s your best memory at Police Credit Union?
A: I still remember during my first week in the Lending Department when our CEO, Costa surprised me with chocolates and a card for my birthday. I had never been wished a happy birthday by a CEO personally and knew from then on, that Police Credit Union was going to be a great place to work.

Q: Hot tip for a lunch spot in your area?
A: Definitely the new food court area over at the Marion Shopping Centre. I love the dumplings and sushi from Itami and my cousin works at Soul Origin – they have amazing fresh salads and rolls.

Q: What do you consider to be the best product / service offered by Police Credit Union?
A: I think our Special Fixed Rate Car Loan is a winner. A super competitive rate with no age limits on the car, extra repayments and no early penalty fee. In my opinion, it’s an unbeatable car loan.

Q: Do you have any hobbies?
A: I love taking my dog for a walk (when I can) and family time with David, Lilly and my sisters.

Q: What was your favourite subject at school?
A: Music – I studied the piano throughout my school years.

Q: Name three people, dead or alive, you would invite to a dinner party?
A: Sir David Attenborough, Turia Pitt and Freddie Mercury.

Q: Your best / worst joke?
A: This one is from Lilly… What’s the difference between a snow man and a snow woman? Snow balls.

Q: What meal are you famous for?
A: I love to bake and am always on dessert duties when my family gets together. Jamie Oliver’s dreamy marshmallow pavlova has been a hit but David’s favourite is my tiramisu.

Q: Describe your role with Police Credit Union?
A: I’m still relatively new in my role as Branch Manager and I am on a steep learning curve. I am loving the opportunity to meet with Members face to face and help them reach their financial aspirations. My team has been brilliant at helping me settle in and are so supportive in teaching me about all the branch operations.

Q. What are you currently binge watching?
A. The Good Fight, Billions, The Disappearance of Maddie McCann and Game of Thrones.

Q. What is on your playlist?
A. Taylor Swift, The Greatest Showman soundtrack, Queen and, when my daughter takes over, it is Sia and Billie Eilish.

Q. What is the best tip you have ever received?
A. FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real.

Q: What were you doing prior to your role with Police Credit Union?
A: Ten years ago I worked at another Credit Union and then spent four years as a full-time mum, which was wonderful. When I did head back to work, I started off doing casual Mum hours at a health group. It was when I felt that I wanted to get back into full-time work, that I fell into my position with Police Credit Union.

Q: Tell us your story… how did you end up at Police Credit Union and where did you start?
A: I started at John Martin’s and moved into several retail jobs including Sunglass Hut, Wheel & Barrow, before a couple of years in real estate. When I applied for work at another credit union, I started as a teller, assisted with the development of the relationship team and finally moved into a Branch Manager role.

Q: What has been one of your most positive Member experiences?
A: My first home loan was for a lovely couple – with one of them working overseas. They were so thrilled and excited when we only had one day prior to settlement to finalise the contracts.

Q: What is one interesting fact about one of your colleagues?
A: I have two! Heather works a busy week and then volunteers for the Girl Guides and Denise gets up super early before work to get to the gym for a workout.

Q: Any parting comments?…
A: Dare to dream, visualise your goals and be grateful for the positivity in your life. Just over a year ago I dreamed of a full time career with Police Credit Union with a goal of being a Branch Manager within two years. And here I am, the Branch Manager at Marion having achieved my goal in my first year. Now, I am rewriting my future goals.

Now that you know Amanda a bit better, if you’re in the area, why not pop into our Marion branch to say hi. She would love to chat to you about how she can help you with your financial goals and she might even share her wisdom on producing the best tiramisu!
