Banking or shopping online... you’re at risk of your banking details being stolen via your computer.
Through attack websites (or attack adverts on regular websites), criminals can install software on your computer – without your knowledge – that intercepts everything you type e.g. card details, internet banking passwords, PayPal logins etc. Everything!
Anti-virus protection is not enough. Make sure you are also running:
- A Firewall
Any software on your computer could be a weak link in its security. Keeping all software up-to-date helps minimise the risk. Enable automatic updating features, if it’s available.
Better still, to protect your account and personal information;
Never click on a link in an unsolicited email, as it may be an attempt to lure you to an attack website. Always contact providers by visiting their website directly.
Avoid using public computers (e.g. library, café, church) for any banking or shopping.
Always log out of banking or shopping sites – don’t simply close the window.
Don’t let your browser auto-complete form fields. This provides criminals with access to your login information if your computer is stolen.
Police Credit Union will never send you an email containing links. If you receive an email claiming to be from us that contains links, it is a fake.
If you have any questions or concerns about the security of your PC for your banking needs, please contact us.
We can secure your accounts, if necessary.
