Police Credit Union appoints
Nick May as Chief Executive Officer

Police Credit Union Chairman, Alex Zimmermann, has announced the appointment of Nick May as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

A South Australian banking executive with more than 34 years’ experience in the mutual sector, Mr May joins Police Credit Union following an extensive recruitment process, bringing deep expertise across both member-facing and operational functions.

“Nick is an outstanding leader with a strong track record in member-focused banking and organisational performance,” Mr Zimmermann said. “His experience, values and long-standing commitment to the mutual sector make him exceptionally well placed to lead Police Credit Union into its next phase while building on our strong foundations.”

Mr May joins from Beyond Bank, where he is currently Chief Member Banking Officer. In this role, he has led customer experience teams delivering consistently high satisfaction outcomes, recognised through numerous awards including Forbes, Canstar, Mozo and Roy Morgan. He has also led a national branch network of more than 50 branches through the COVID-19 period and overseen the successful implementation of the organisation’s broker channel.

“I’m humbled by the opportunity to lead a mutual like Police Credit Union,” Mr May said.

“Having been in mutual banking for more than three decades, the opportunity to lead a purpose-driven organisation like Police Credit Union is a great privilege.”

“I’ve long admired Police Credit Union as one of the sector’s most consistent performers, and I look forward to working with the team to continue delivering for Members and the community.”

The appointment follows the planned transition of Costa Anastasiou, who will retire following a distinguished tenure as CEO.

“Costa’s vision and guidance have been instrumental in shaping who we are today,” Mr Zimmermann said. “His unwavering commitment to our values and long-term strategy has created a strong foundation for the future. On behalf of the Board and the entire organisation, we extend our deepest gratitude for his exceptional leadership.”

To allow for a structured and smooth handover period Mr May will commence as CEO on 29 June 2026, with Mr Anastasiou retiring on 21 July 2026.

Day-to-day operations and strategic priorities remain unchanged, with Police Credit Union continuing to focus on delivering value to its Members.

“This appointment reflects both continuity and confidence in our future,” Mr Zimmermann said. “We are excited about the opportunities ahead.”
