In the community
We’ve stepped up when it comes to taking our Better Banking motto out into the wider community.
Supporting like-minded, community-focussed clubs, associations, organisations, activities and events across SA and NT is what we’re all about.
Our Community, Environment and Employee Engagement and Diversity Committee (CEEED) proactively works with the community, focussing on our social responsibility and ensuring that we support, promote and invest in the use of green and sustainable energy.
From supporting local organisations such as the Adelaide Footy League, to major community events such as the Credit Union Christmas Pageant for 23 years and our work with the Police Association of South Australia and the Northern Territory Police Association, we are passionate about fulfilling our corporate social responsibility objectives.
In fact, since 2006 we have surpassed our targets for community investment spend, contributing over $4.5 million to community initiatives.
We are also proud to have partnered with Crime Stoppers South Australia, which aims to make the South Australian community safer. Our support assists them in offering rewards for information, conducting annual crime prevention campaigns and collecting the vital information required from the community to solve crimes.
Further to this, we have formed a major partnership with the Country Fire Service (CFS) Foundation Inc. Our experience with working with those on the front line means we understand the importance of the Foundation’s work supporting volunteer firefighters and their families.
We are committed to being environmentally friendly and sustainable.
As an organisation, we became carbon neutral in 2018, two years earlier than planned. This was just one part of our commitment to reducing our environmental impact. Since 2008, we have proudly neutralised and offset 2,540 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere. We also implemented a series of changes including replacing all incandescent bulbs with energy efficient LED lights with in-built motion sensors to minimise energy wastage, purchasing carbon offsets for the kilometres flown by staff and moving our Members to online statements to save on printing.
The move to online statements alone resulted in 12,500 less statements being printed each month, over 200 trees being saved a year and an annual reduction in paper consumption of over 3,100 reams.
As we continue to put steps in place to reduce our environmental impact, you can play your part, too. If you want to reduce your own environmental impact, consider one of our Solar Eco Loans.
